She was critically acclaimed and won the Academy Award for Best Actress in the role of June Carter Cash, in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a downturn in her career in which Water for Elephants (2011) was her only box-office success, Witherspoon decided to make her comeback, producing and play Cheryl Strayed, the drama Wild (2014). The film resulted in her receiving a second Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Witherspoon is still working mostly in the field of television, and has been a part of and produced many female-led adaptations of books under Hello Sunshine. This includes the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017-2019) as well as The Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show (2019-present) as well as the Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (2020).
